The continued weakness in the housing markets, however, is a major factor in the sapping of consumer confidence and the resulting lack of a robust rebound. While housing and mortgage lending remains entangled in a seemingly intractable web of investigations...

How Did The Jobs Report Affect Mortgage Rates?

Mortgage Rates improved slightly yesterday as we awaited this morning's high risk event, the monthly Employment Situation Report. That report showed that no new jobs were created last month, a worse than anticipated result. But as you may be aware, bad economic data usually coincides with lower interest rates. It's not always a direct connection, but generally. That's also the case today with mortgage rates slightly improved over yesterday's offerings. CURRENT MARKET *: The BestExecution 30-year...

Good Night Irene? Not So Fast. It's Recert Time!

[I am away from the computer on a daily basis, and I cannot respond to e-mails until September 11th. In my place are daily commentaries from a series of very knowledgeable mortgage industry people with different backgrounds, and they have been given very little direction about what to write about - the latest is below. Our views may or may not coincide, but I thank them for their time in volunteering and helping out.] Good night Irene..... Not so fast Frank Fiore Partner e: ffiore(at)matchboxllc...

Mortgage Rates: High Risk Event Tomorrow

After a scary morning threatened to send Mortgage Rates even higher, things turned around in the Secondary Mortgage Market. Although there wasn't enough of an improvement to see a solid drop in BestExecution rates, the closing costs involved in obtaining those rates are slightly lower this afternoon. Long story short, if you're not locked up already, you're probably at the whim of tomorrow's potential big market mover: The Employment Situation Report. CURRENT MARKET *: The BestExecution 30-year fixed...

Treasury Penalizes Two Servicers, Incentives Withheld

The Departments of Treasury and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released the August edition of their Housing Scorecard on Friday which painted a picture of slowly increasing home prices and decreasing foreclosures while delinquencies increased. The Scorecard, issued jointly by the Departments of Treasury and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is largely a recap of data released by other sources such as the Census Bureau, S&P Case-Schiller, RealtyTrac and the National Association of Realtors...
