Cash Buyers and Qualified Investors Prop Home Sales. Tight Credit Limits Housing Recovery

The National Association of Realtors today released Existing Home Sales data for January 2011 Existing Home Sales report on the number of completed real estate sales transactions on single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops. The methodology in calculating existing-home sales statistics is really quite simple. Each month the National Association of Realtor® receives data on existing-home sales from local associations/boards and multiple listing services (MLS) nationwide. The monthly...

FHA Commissioner Explains Logic Behind Insurance Premium Hike

Last week the FHA announced it would increase annual mortgage insurance premiums by 0.25% to "bolster capital reserves", effective for case numbers ordered on or after April 18, 2011. Naturally the sudden spike in fees led to a chorus of Bronx cheers from inside the housing industry. Originator, Realtor, and Borrower feedback was generally themed along the lines of comments like "GREAT TIMING. REDUCING THE POOL OF QUALIFIED HOMEBUYERS WILL DEFINITELY BOOST THE HOUSING RECOVERY". Please note sarcasm...
