Case-Shiller Data Confirms Double-Dip in Home Prices

The March S&P/Case Shiller Home Price Indices , released by Standard & Poor's, paint an increasingly clear picture of the "double dip" in U.S. home prices. The study uses matched price pairs of individual houses to construct a 20-City Composite Index and a 10-City Composite Index which...

If you haven't shared your thoughts on the matter, I urge you to do so, especially if you're an industry professional. HERE is the feedback portal In the process of developing my own personal perspective on mortgage disclosure reform I took an approach that some folks mind find a bit odd; I sought out a consultant with no direct...

Home Sales Sag into Summer Months. NAR Harps on Tight Credit

The National Association of Realtors® (NAR) released its April Pending Home Sales Index (PHSI ) today. The index is said to be a leading indicator for the housing sector; it measures sales activity based on sales of single-family homes, coops and condos. The data reflects contracts but not closings, which normally occur with a lag time of one or two months. Pending home sales fell in April with regional variations following increases in February and March, with unusual weather and economic softness...

Mortgage Rates: Tear Down This Wall?

"The Wall" absorbed a direct hit today. A sizeable crack is now visible in the metaphorical structure that stands in the way of lower mortgage rates. Intraday price appreciations in the secondary mortgage market were large enough to warrant multiple reprices for the better from lenders. As a result we...
