Mortgage Rates Hit Highest Levels Since Early July

Mortgage Rates moved higher today continuing a broader trend of weakness that began in late July. Throughout that trend, the actual interest rates being offered to mortgage shoppers haven't moved much and in some cases, would be the same today as they were before the recently higher trend began (the difference being higher closing costs or lower lender credit). Wells Fargo Pays $6.5M to Settle SEC Charges Tied to MBS

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has just charged that during an eight month period in 2007 a subsidiary of Wells Fargo and one of its former vice presidents sold investments tied to mortgage backed securities without understanding the complexity and risks of the investments and not disclosing them to investors.
